Playable Characters We Want in Super Mario Party

Super Mario Party has the biggest roster of characters to choose from at 20. There are many classic characters that return to the roster as well as new ones like Bowser. Many are fun to play and make the game interesting, however it feels as if some characters had been forgotten. There are characters like Goomba, Pom Pom, and Monty Mole for example who feel like a waste of playable characters. We are going to look at five characters that we feel should be playable characters in Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch. Very few people are excited to play as these characters and many never get chosen. Each character has their own specific dice that can be used, and we will be looking at options for that as well as one additional gameplay mechanic that could add extra fun.

Toad

Toad is one of those characters similar to Bowser when it comes to Mario Party. He is a very important character when it comes to the game. He is the one who is usually selling items or passing out the stars. In Super Mario Party he is the host of the game, while Toadette hands out he stars. It would have been nice to have another character host the game and have Toad be a playable character. We get to finally play as bowser in this title I feel that it is Toads turn to become a playable character in Super Mario Party. Toads character dice could include the option to receive a coin boost.

Pauline

Pauline grew as a fan favorite after her resurgence as the Mayor of New Donk City in Mario Odyssey. She has been featured in Mario Kart Tour and recently has become a member of the main roster in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Pauline would be a great character to play as if you do not want to play as princess. The roster includes three already so have a non-princess female character would be a great idea. She could be dressed in her red dress or in her mayor outfit, either one would be a cool idea. Pauline could take the place of a character like Goomba. He is one of those characters no one ever picks, and no one is happy when they receive him as their ally. Paulins specialty dice could include both positive and negative coins as well as the option to move a few spaces. There are characters that include multiple positive or negative coins dice, but there none that include one of each. This would be a cool Dice to add to this character.

Babies

The babies have been missing from every Mario Party installment. They are fan favorites in the Mario Kart games and everyone loves when they get to see the baby forms of the characters. Super Mario Party should include the baby versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, DK, Pauline, and Wario. These characters could all be packaged under one character who has one particular “Baby Dice”. This character would be a lot of fun to add to the game, especially watching the babies play the minigames. The game includes Bowser Jr already and the babies would be a great add. They could take the spot of one of lower tier playable characters like Pom Pom who feels like a waste of a character. The babies character dice could include a bunch of small numbers. For those who are only looking to move zero to three spaces.

Mii’s

It would be a cool idea if the Mii’s were playable characters in Super Mario Party. Playing as a mii is not a new concept to Nintendo games. They were featured playable characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, as well as Mario Kart. Playing as a mii is always fun especially with the creativity people have when it comes to making Miis. Imagine playing as anyone, batman, the terminator, even real-life people. This would have been a great concept to include in Super Mario Party. Shy guy has a cool dice where he has the two chances for positive coins as well as the option to move up to six spaces. This dice could be used for the Mii characters rather than be used on a throw away character like Goomba. IT can be utilized in a character that people would actually play as.

Honorable Mentions

Birdo

Birdo is on this list as an honorable mention character solely because she was released as a playable character in the follow up Mario Party installment Mario Party Superstars. It would have made complete sense to include Birdo as a playable character. She appears in the party plaza just to hand out stickers. This character could have been replaced with a character like Monty Mole, but Nintendo eventually made up for it. Birdo’s character dice could be the same Dice the Pom Pom uses. This dice includes 0,3,3,3,3,8. This is an interesting Dice to add so there’s no need to remove the dice just the character of Pom Pom.

Yoshi Color Variations

Everyone loves to play as Yoshi in any game they can. One great thing about Yoshi is that he comes in different colors. There’s nothing better than choosing Yoshi in your favorite color variation. Mine in particular is the purple form. It would be a cool concept to choose the color of Yoshi, similar to Mario Kart. This also solves the problem of who gets to play as Yoshi. This way multiple people can play as the beloved character in different colors. Yoshi’s characters dice can remain the same. While there are different colors there is no need to give each color a different character dice.

Shy Guy Color Variations

Similar to Yoshi Shy Guy comes in different colors. The same concept for Yoshi can be applied here with Shy Guy and even Hammer Bro, who has four different colors. Shy Guy is a goofy character that everyone likes to play as, which is probably why he had so many color options in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The same can be said about Shy Guy’s character dice in comparison to Yoshi’s.
