New Racers Coming

Mario Kart 8 has gotten a lot of added content from its initial release on the Wii U in 2015. When it was ported to the Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe included the two waves of DLC that were on the Wii U. All these years later Nintendo continues to add new content to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. New waves of have been hitting the game roughly every three months offering the players two new cups per wave. This, however, changed with the release of wave 4. Not only does the player obtain two new cups but new characters will come with each wave. The first and only character to be added has been Birdo, who has a color change option offering the player nine different color schemes. There are many characters that were not featured as racers in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which begs the question, who will be added. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offers six different weight classes; Very Light, Light, Medium, Medium Heavy, Heavy, Very Heavy, which will also be taken into consideration during this list.

Pauline made her debut back in 1981 in the Arcade game Donkey Kong, however she made a resurgence when Mario Odyssey was released. In this title she is the Mayor of New Donk City. Pauline would be a great character to add to the roster because she gained popularity after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had been released and she was in Mario Kart Tour as well. The race roster now has the smallest number of medium Heavy racers. This class includes Mario Luigi, Ludwig von Koopa, and Iggy Koopa. If you are looking for a medium-sized character your choices are the Mario brothers or two Koopas, which would make Pauline a great fit for this class. An additional female racer to this class would be perfect.

Diddy Kong is the cousin of Donkey Kong and made his first appearance in Donkey Kong Country on November 18, 1994. Diddy has appeared in other Mario Kart titles but was missing in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Diddy made his racing debut in Mario Kart: Double Dash and returned in Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart Tour. If you are interested in playing as a very light character the options are slim as well. There are, however, more characters to choose from than in the previous class mentioned, the variety is lacking. The Light class includes; the babies (Daisy, Luigi, Mario, Peach, and Rosalina), Lemmy Koopa and Dry Bones. Baby DK did not make return in this title which is why Diddy Kong makes more sense to be added. Now with Diddy added to this class at least there is another option to play as rather than babies and koopas.

Nabbit made his debut in New Super Mario Bros. U, in 2014. Nabbit is a thief who enjoys stealing items and filling his bag up. Adding him as a racer would be wise because he is a playable character in Mario Kart 8, and the previous waves have been including a lot of Tour tracks but have not added any tour racers. Nabbit would fit perfectly as a heavy character because he may be small, but he always carries his heavy bag of stolen items.

Madame Broode is a newer villain to the Mario world and has only been featured in one game. She made her introduction as the secondary antagonist in Super Mario Odyssey. Made Broode is the ruler of the Rabbit Ridge and leads the broodals, who are a villainous group of rabbits that are henchman and minibosses in Mario Odyssey. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe featured zero characters that were introduced or important in Super Mario Odyssey and that was a missed opportunity. Madame Broode would be a great racer to be in the very heavy weight class. This class is also a small class including only; Bowser, Wario, Morton Koopa Jr., and Dry Bowser. With Madame Broode being in the super heavy class a female character option will be available in each class.

The final racer that should be added in Mario Kart Deluxe is Captain Falcon. This one may seem out of place, but it makes perfect sense. Captain Falcon made his first appearance in F-Zero for the Super Nintendo in 1991. This high-speed racing game was widely popular and gained many sequels but has not been seen in some time. Captain Falcon is already a familiar face and fan favorite due to his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already includes not one but two F-Zero inspired courses but has not added any F-Zero characters.
