Kirby and The Forgotten Land Review

Kirby and the Forgotten was published by HAL Laboratory and was released on March 25, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch. This Kirby adventure was a fun ride from start to finish. We see Kirby be sucked into the Forgotten Land where he must save the Waddle Dees and defeat the Species Born of Chaos, the Chaos Elfilis.

The Forgotten Land is an action-packed 3D platformer that offers twelve different powerups that Kirby can obtain. The Ranger, Cutter, Drill, Hammer, Sword, Sleep, Crash, Bomb, Needle Fire Tornado and Ice abilities are all the ones that you can obtain in this game. Each one can be upgraded multiple times which deals more damage and adds effects as well.

Power up abilities are not the only type of transformation that Kirby can do in this game. Kirby can suck up objects and gain special abilities to help solve puzzles and defeat enemies. These abilities include a Car, Pipe, Traffic Cone, Vending Machine, and water. These abilities are fun and add a new dynamic to the game. Kirby’s shape and size changes along with his controls.

The Forgotten Land is filled with many different themed worlds that are common in 3D platformers such as the desert, forest, arctic, and volcanic areas, but in Kirby it does but it adds a twist on it. For example, the forest level is a city in which the forest had taken it over. Yeah, it's forest themed world but it felt new. Each world is beautifully designed, and they include secret items, boss battles, and puzzles, which makes each level feel unique.

The one area that Kirby and the Forgotten Land lacks in is the length of the game. There are amazing worlds in this game but there are only Six worlds to visit and each level in the world is rather short. Most of the levels can be beaten in a matter of minutes. To make up for this, however this is post-game content including an additional world with harder levels as well as the fighting arena. In the fighting area Kirby can fight against the bosses that were already faced in the game as well as Metaknight. There are multiple cups to participate in and difficulties which create hours of playtime in the arena alone.

Overall, Kirby and The Forgotten Land is a great experience. It offers beautiful world designs, great combat and a great story. The only thing holding it down is the length of the story, especially when priced at $59.99. Despite this I highly recommend checking this title out.

Overall Score: 9/10
