Characters Missing from Smash

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the biggest roster when it comes to playable characters. There are over 75 playable characters that were available at when the game launched in 2018. The roster includes every character that has been playable in previous installments as well as new characters ready to join the fight. These characters come from a variety of titles, some are owned by Nintendo like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon and others are owned by a different party like Banjo Kazooi, Cloud Strife, and Sora. When Smash ultimate was announced many began to speculate which new characters would join the roster, whether it be at launch or through DLC. Now after the game has been released and the final character has been added to the roster we are going to look at some characters, in our eyes, who should have been added in the game as playable characters. Which character did you want to play as in Smash Bros and which character got added that you feel is not deserving of a spot.

Geno

The number one character that fans have been asking to be added in Super Smash Bros is Geno. This character made his debut in the title Super Mario RPG: Legend of the seven Stars. This game or the most part has been forgotten by not this character. Geno is a warrior from the Star Road and is one of Mario’s allies in Super Mario RPG. Other than this title Geno himself is not featured in any other titles and deserves a return since in smash since Nintendo has no intention of porting Super Mario RPG to the Switch.  Geno has many moves that could be designed to Hero’s where he picks between different attacks that could be used in battle based on mana. These abilities could be Geno Beam, Geno whirl, and Geno Blast to name a few.

Waluigi

If fans are not asking for Geno the second name that comes out is always Waluigi. Waluigi has been a fan favorite since his debut in Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64. He has been a playable character in a number of Mario installments but has never obtained his own game like other Mario characters. This has been the main reason he has been excluded from the roster. Smash Bros already has many Mario characters, but a lot of these characters have their own games. Characters like Luigi, DK, Yoshi, and Wario all have their own titles to represent; while characters like Peach, Bowser, Daisy, and Rosalina represent the Mario franchise more than Waluigi. Waluigi has been featured as an assist trophy, but a playable character is needed. His moves could be used straight from his assist trophy abilities and fans would love it.

Skull Kid

One of the most familiar characters from the legend of Zelda that is not Link is Skull Kid. He is the main character in the Majora's Mask and becomes an antagonist to Link and the land of Termina when he comes in contact with said mask. Skull kid also makes his appearance in the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, when Link visits the Lost Woods. The only game this character is playable in is Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, where he has cool moves that involve his ocarina. This could be the base of his fighting mechanics in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It would be a great idea if he had been removed as an assist trophy and turned into a complete playable character like a few others that have made this list.

Breath of the Wild Champions

Smash Ultimate has a lot of characters from Legend of Zelda but three of them are variations of Link.  The Champions from the Breath of the Wild could have played like the Hero from dragon quest.  Each color variation is a different hero with different moves and stats.  This could work very well with the Champions; Revali, Urbosa, Mipha, and Daruk. These characters were introduced in the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and were playable in Hyrule Warrior: Age of Calamity.

Mipha

Mipha is the Zora Champion from Breath of the Wild. She wields the Light scale Trident, This character would be different than than the other character who wield weapons because she uses a spear like weapon while others use different types of blades. This character also has water and abilities and has magic. She is not physically strong but it is small and quick. She has the ability to heal in Breath of the Wild which could be an added ability like robin or the Earthbound kids.

Daruk

Daruk is the Goron Champion from The Legend of Zelda Breathe of the Wild.   Daruk’s character and moves could be a combination of King Dededee and Sonic the Hedgehog.  He wields the Boulder breaker which is a two-handed weapon and can curl up into a ball and roll around the terrain.  This character would be heavy and strong but would lack speed when not rolling.

Urbosa

Urbosa is the Gerudo Champion from Breath of the Wild.  She wields sword and shield just like the iterations of link.  In one of her hands, she wields the Daybreaker, but in her other hand is the Scimitar of the Seven. The smash roster is packed with sword fighters but there are not many who use duel wield sword and this would've been a great feature in the game. Urbosa player mechanics could be a based off of a combination of Ganondorf and Ike. She is very build like both characters and would make most sense if she moved like the big, heavy swordmen.

Revali

Revali would be a great character because he has features that a few characters in the roster already have, which is wings. Characters there are many characters who excel in aerial combat but there are only a few who fly around with wings to do it. Revali’s moves and mechanics could be modeled after pit, because they are very similar. Rivali used the Great Eagle bow which is very durable; offering great accuracy, distance, and quickness.

Pokemon Trainer

The Pokémon trainer is already featured in Smash Ultimate, but it would be a cool idea to have there be another trainer that is designed as an echo fighter, like Daisy and Dark Samus.  This Pokémon trainer could still have the same three types; fire water and grass, but the starters could be swapped with a different region and the evolution orders are changed.  For example, the trainer could have a Chimpchar, Prinplup, and a Torterra.

CupHead

The ice climbers are the only characters on the current roster who consist of two characters, Podo and Nana. This mechanic was fun, but it was a shame that it was hindered by the ice climbers. This is why there should have been another character that played as two and the perfect fit for this would be Cuphead and Mugman from the popular title Cuphead These two made their debut in the 2017 title Cuphead, a side scrolling action adventure. There was a lot of craze when this game was released and Smash Bros. Could have capitalized on the moment.
